Abandoned Trawler at Sunderland Point 1

Went to Sunderland Point today, more in hope than expectation, but it was an excellent spot. I shot 70 or so RAWs in groups of 3 bracketed shots, so I could post process them with Photomatix. I didn't have my Velbon with me, but I used a Manfrotto mono (and held it as still as I could). This is the best of the bunch, but I ended up with two or three others that I was quite pleased with. The light was coming and going, but the overall low levels seem to suit P.matix better than I expected. I haven't been out with the camera for a little while, having injured my leg by falling off the boat, but today has been a reminder of how much I enjoy taking photographs.
Which was nice.

Stone Jetty in August

Stone Jetty in August, originally uploaded by Bay Photographic.

I was quite pleased with this when I took it, but it seems to appeal less to other people. I recenty tried to print it out on my R1800, and it came out flooded in a turquoise colour, which I think is because the Cyan cartridge is firing too much ink for some reason. The trouble with being colour blind is that I can't really see colour casts or balance problems, so I have no idea what is going on, but even I can see that it isn't printing properly at the moment.

Arnside railway viaduct

Railway viaduct, originally uploaded by Bay Photographic.

The colours in this shot are exactly as I saw them on the day. A storm was coming in from the Lakes, and the sun was out, although it disappeared soon after I took this. I generally leave colour balance and saturation alone as I am colour blind, and I tend to make things worse rather than better. I must try to learn to use curves in Photoshop.

Henry on the Lancaster Canal

P1010002, originally uploaded by Bay Photographic.

This is my boat, taken on the Lancaster Canal last autumn. A constant labour, fuelled by unreasoning attachment beyond the point of all rationality. Why on earth insist on having a boat that costs a fortune and needs total devotion and regular attention rather than a shed in the garden which gives the same effect and needs a coat of creosote every five years?
I have no idea.
I've had a boat of one sort or another since I was 15.
I can't imagine life without one.

This is a 'badge' made using a flickr tool. It shows a selection of my photos from my flickr stream, which change every time it is refreshed.

The railway viaduct in Arnside

Took this on Boxing Day in 2005. A pleasing photograph to look at, but you wouldn't want it on your wall.

Sunken Cruiser in Garstang

I also took this on the same morning.

Final Resting Place

Final Resting Place, originally uploaded by Bay Photographic.

And hopefully a good place to start.
This is one of my first attempts at HDR. Taken in Garstang, on the Lancaster Canal, on a fine morning when I was doing some work on my boat. I should probably point out that this is not my boat. If it was then 'doing some work' would have a whole different meaning. I was really rather pleased with this. I know that HDR has its critics, but I come from a world of developer and trays and red lights, and this sort of thing would have been way beyond my abilities in a dark room.

Time to blog

The time to blog is now. Been meaning to look into blogging for a while. Knew roughly what it was, wasn't really sure, then stumbled across 'chromasia'.
Ahh.
So that's what they do...
Time to blog then.
